What is History?
History is the beautiful fusion of elements from the past, present, and future that displays itself into the time that we are currently living. Carefully analyzing the past, present, and future gives the scholar enough data to make educated statements and make bold predictions on where society is going. History allows us to see the mistakes that we have made in the past, and how we can make the necessary adjustments to avoid impending trouble. With the study of history, one will be able to successfully detect patterns that have occurred throughout the world.
There is a reason why I put the quote “there is nothing new under the sun.” It is because of this quote that has propelled me to study history even further. With time the student of history will notice that everything that is happening now has occurred at some point in our world’s history just in a different form. The fun part is finding out how those events connect and how the citizens of that time dealt with that issue. The studying of history requires an open mind, and the ability to use a variety of sources at one’s command. History encompasses all the primary, secondary, and tertiary sources that requires serious study by the student. The beauty about history is that even though one central event may have taken place, there exits a variety of viewpoints on how that event happened. History is analyzing the historians who have documented that event in society and determine why they chose to document the event the way they did. Finally, history is the ability to leave personal bias at the front door, and being able to see with an open mind why the event took place, and what one can do to make a difference. |
